Lowering your risk of stroke

Writer's picture: Julie ManleyJulie Manley

Researches computer-analyzed health and lifestyle of almost 300,000 adults. They looked at sleep and exercise and tracked who had a stroke. They found that people who slept 7-8 hours a night were 25% less likely to have a stroke. Those who had a good night's sleep and also exercised 30 minutes 3-6 times per week significantly decreased their stroke risk.

"Exercise is by far the best medication. It does everything: dilates the arteries and keeps the lining of the arteries healthy. It decreases cholesterol and blood pressure. But if you don't sleep, you can't exercise."
