Hi everyone, happy Thursday!
We are a team of 7 registered physiotherapists, 2 registered massage therapists, 1 physiotherapy assistant, and last – but definitely not least – is our administrative assistant Ashley.
Our philosophy at Active Living is to provide high quality care in a supportive, fun environment.
Keep reading to learn a little more about us:
If you know Julie Manley, you probably know she’s a hockey fan! She’s also a registered physiotherapist and the owner of our clinic. She studied biomedical sciences at the University of Guelph. While volunteering during her undergraduate studies, Julie developed her passion for neurological and geriatric rehabilitation. After graduating from the University of Toronto with her Master of Science in physical therapy, Julie gained experience working in hospital settings as well as private practice. She then returned to her hometown of Peterborough, Ontario to open up a clinic of her own with the help of her husband Terry.
Also a hockey fan, Terry is our business manager. He’s our tech go-to guy and helps our days run smoothly. Thank you Terry!
Andrea Latter is our small town girl! Originally from small town Ontario, she completed her undergraduate degree in Wolfville, Nova Scotia where she studied kinesiology and nutrition. Andrea returned to Ontario and completed her Master of Science in physical therapy at McMaster University. Since graduating, Andrea has been working at Active Living, and we’re so happy to have her! Dedicated to continued learning and using a functional approach to help clients reach their utmost potential, Andrea leads post-stroke exercise classes and has experience with the LSVT-BIG program for people with Parkinson’s disease. Andrea also provides physiotherapy services for a variety of other neurological and orthopedic conditions.
Richard Quenneville is a registered physiotherapist with a long history at Active Living. He started volunteering at the clinic while he was completing his undergraduate degree at Trent University. He then went on to complete his Master of Science in physical therapy at Queen’s University, during which he had a placement here! Like Andrea, Richard has been working at Active Living since completing his Master’s degree. Richard’s passion for health and fitness shines through in his work. He’s dedicated to working with his clients to develop attainable physiotherapy goals in the treatment of neurological, orthopaedic, and vestibular issues.
Christine Grigg found her love for physiotherapy after she acquired a knee injury during her time as a competitive gymnast. She completed her Honours degree at the University of Waterloo, and then went to Buffalo, New York to complete her Doctor of Physical Therapy at D’Youville College. (Don’t worry, she’s still a Leafs fan!). Christine uses evidence based practice to provide physiotherapy treatments for people with orthopaedic and neurological conditions and is registered with the Neuro-developmental Treatment Association (NDTA).
Shawna Buren is a registered physiotherapist who, like Julie, completed her Master of Science in physical therapy at the University of Toronto. Prior to completing her Master’s degree, Shawna studied at UOIT (now OTU) in Oshawa where she completed her undergraduate degree in kinesiology with a specialization in exercise science. Shawna has completed continuing education in persistent pain management, vestibular rehabilitation, concussion, and neurological rehabilitation, including Bobath courses. Shawna has also been consulting with Julie about a fun little clinic refresh, coming soon! Stay tuned for that blog post.
Cassy Sheppard joined the Active Living team in December 2021. She completed her Master of Science in physical therapy at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia and then returned to Ontario where she worked as a paediatric physiotherapist. Cassy is a wealth of knowledge, not only with her background in paediatric physiotherapy, but also with her 7 year history as a registered massage therapist. Cassy works with clients of all ages to address orthopedic and neurological conditions and has completed an introductory course in Neuro-developmental Treatment.
Tahne Buren graduated from UOIT (OTU) with an Honours degree in kinesiology before completing her Master of Science in physical therapy at U of T. Tahne is Shawna’s twin sister! She started her career in an outpatient clinic before accepting a full time position in acute care. She uses an exercise-based approach to help people rehabilitate orthopedic and neurological concerns. Her goal is to promote healthy, sustainable changes through movement and exercise. She’s also been collaborating with Shawna and Julie about clinic décor and she looks forward to sharing the end result!
Alina Fragomeli is the most recent addition to our team! She’s a physiotherapy assistant with a background in kickboxing and jiu jitsu. Not only has she traveled to places like California and Brazil competing in these sports at provincial, national, and world levels, but she’s also assisted in instructing self-defense seminars, including seminars for the Peterborough Police. All of this, plus she’s fun to be around! We’re definitely thankful to have her as part of our team!
Ashley White, our administrative assistant and multitasking queen, went to Fleming College on a soccer scholarship and completed two diplomas: one in police foundations and another in custom border security. In addition to soccer, Ashley has a love for hockey, and she was one happy fan in 2022!! Her and Julie are avid participants in Tim Horton’s Hockey Challenge – striving for that free week of coffee! We wish them both the best of luck. But back to business here, Ashley makes her job look easy, and we appreciate her so much!
Catherine Chambers (better known to us as Cath) is a registered massage therapist who graduated with an honours degree in kinesiology before completing another degree at Sheridan College with a specialization in Athletic Therapy. She has experience working with professional and amateur athletes individually and in team settings. She brings a wealth of experience to her work, including a strong background in therapeutic exercise prescription and injury prevention.
Jennifer Gauthier is a registered massage therapist. She graduated from Fleming College in 2003 and has been working at Active Living since 2008. With nearly 20 years of experience, Jen provides treatment to people with a variety of conditions and enjoys removing barriers to receiving massage therapy. Bonus: Jen is an excellent baker, and she sometimes brings us treats! We love that.
And that’s our team! Thank you for taking the time to get to know us a little bit. We hope you have a great day :
